Frances T. (Carr) Hoffman, 84, of Ash River Trail, Minn., died Monday morning, May 17, 2010, at Falls Good Samaritan Center, International Falls.

Fran was born and raised in Chicago, Ill., and married Robert Carr in 1941.

She was a mother and homemaker until Bob and she purchased Frontier Resort and moved to Minnesota.

After the loss of her husband, Fran ran the Frontier on her own for four years until she married Ben Hoffman in 1978.

In 1997, Fran retired to enjoy life with Ben, their children and her grandchildren.

Fran was loved for her wonderful “Hugs” and in her spare time, she enjoyed playing softball, dancing, playing cards, cooking,
visiting with customers, fishing, snowmobiling and spending time with Ben.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Overheu; first husband, Robert E. Carr; second husband,
Benedict Hoffman; step-son, James Hoffman; one brother; and two sisters.

Frances is survived by her son, Jim (Jean) Carr of Florida; daughters, Bert Karasek of International Falls, Minn.,
Patty Engstrom of Chicago, Ill., and Deb Sanders of Ash River Trail, Minn.; step-son, Ben “Babe” Hoffman III of Cass Lake, Minn.;
step-daughters, Ginny (Mike) Crain of Keller, Texas, Mary (Danny) Doyea of Beltrami, Minn., and Laurie (Dean) Konen of Anoka, Minn.;
daughter-in-law, Suzi Hoffman of Orr, Minn.; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 21, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, International Falls.

A Celebration of Life is planned for 5 p.m. Friday, May 21, at Frontier Resort.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army and the Susan G. Koman Foundation.
